Our newest print illustrated by the lovely Minnah and printed locally, and depicts a Dazzle Camouflaged WW1 ship. See the fascinating story of this painting technique below.
Dazzle painting was invented by marine artist Norman Wilkinson during WW1 for ship camouflage. It was used extensively during this time, and to a lesser extent during ww2 and consisted of complex patterns and contrasting colours, while using geometric shapes intersecting and interrupting one another. The results were indeed dazzling! Unlike other forms of camouflage Dazzle was not made to conceal, but to make it more difficult to estimate a targets range, speed and heading. Norman Wilkinson explained in 1919 that he had intended dazzle primarily to mislead the enemy about a ship's course and so cause them to take up a poor firing position. Each ships Dazzle pattern was also unique to avoid making classes of ships instantly recognisable. Despite a range of Dazzle schemes being tried, the evidence for their success is mixed at best.
Our screen printed t-shirts are what started it all! They have always been one of our most popular items and Christina hand printed this range for close to 15 years. The designs we use are mid century themed, or inspired by everyones hobbies and interests, be it music, travel or the local area around us in the Inner West of Sydney. All our designs are done in-house, by the lovely Minnah or Kirbee with the ideas and drive for the range coming from Christina.

The tees are a crew neck, regular fit tee that should work on all body shapes. They are not too slim-fitting or loose, and they’re soft and comfy too due to the medium weight cotton used in their production! They’ve also been pre-shrunk to minimise shrinkage. The sizing is standard, or order the size that you or your loved one wear normally.
To create our classic screenprinted tees, we work with an ethical screenprinting company over in Melbourne/Naarm! All tees are printed with waterbased ink and printed by hand! Please note because each tee is completely printed by hand, there may be small inconsistencies in print and colour, we like to call these “makers marks” and we think they just add to your tee being a complete one-off original. Print positioning will also vary slightly from one t-shirt to the next.
